What's the difference between line voltage and low voltage (12v/ 24v) lighting?

Posted by Joe Friedrich on Jul 14, 2017 10:00:00 AM
  • Tweet

Interest in low voltage, or 12v, lighting has grown in our increasingly energy-conscious customers over the last several years, with the emergence and proliferation of long-life, energy-efficient lighting.

But to properly understand the full benefits of low voltage lighting, we should start here: low voltage lighting is more of a tactical application than a budgetary or energy-saving one, though there may be moderate gains in these areas in certain instances.

Here's an overview of common LED dimming issues and how to fix them

Posted by Brandon Melton on May 17, 2017 3:10:00 PM
  • Tweet

Dimming LEDs may be getting easier and easier, but problems still can –– and often do –– surface when you try to run LED lamps on dimmer controls.

But why?

Unfortunately, there's no easy answer. Diagnosing LED dimming issues isn't all that unlike diagnosing a sickness.

You start by checking vitals before looking at the symptoms of the issue.

In a dimming scenario, the vital check is pretty simple:

Alice + Olivia launched in 2002 as a women's fashion brand that was exclusively sold in Barneys New York. The company's steady growth over the last 15 years now has it selling its clothing in 50 different countries. And part of that growth has come through the brand's expansion to its own brick and mortar locations.

Solve LED dimming problems like flickering and strobing with these 4 simple tips

Posted by Brandon Melton on Apr 27, 2017 12:50:00 PM
  • Tweet

When LED lamps first started to make their way to the market, early adopters experienced a great deal of frustration when they attempted to get them to dim. In most cases, the technology just wasn’t far enough along, and problems persisted for years. So, in a setting like a restaurant, where ambiance is often king, many were understandably reluctant to make the switch to LED, opting instead to stick with conventional, less-efficient lighting technologies.

The lighting industry has waded through the often-choppy, often-murky waters of LED dimming over the last several years and, while a lot of the problems have been solved, flickering and strobing and early burnout still happens all the time.

Why?

How to recycle fluorescent lighting and electronic waste

Are you currently retrofitting to LEDs and left with some old lamps? Do you just pile them up in the back of your building?

Hopefully not.

As we move forward in the ever-changing world of lighting, staying educated and sensitive to the environmental impact of energy consumption and use of lighting has been more important than ever before. When you purchase lighting, you may not just be thinking about replacing the lamp that is in the socket, but also thinking about how the new product will impact energy, as well as the environment.

Who should use Regency's LED Buying Guide?

Last year, we published our first-ever LED Buying Guide. We say over and over again around here that our goal is to make lighting easy for our customers, and the LED Buying Guide was published with that objective in mind.

The lighting world has undergone rapid changes over the last decade with the emergence and proliferation of light emitting diode (LED) lighting technology. Just seven years ago, in 2010, less than 10 manufacturers made up 90 percent of the lighting market. Last year, that market share was spread between more than 400 manufacturers, each with its own fluid, iterative product line.

That's a lot to keep up with.

So, how do we make things easier for you?
