Here at Regency we're well aware that lighting can be complicated, that's why here on the Lighting Insights blog we aim to help answer your questions and make lighting easy for you. Not only do we enjoy reading and writing about lighting, but we enjoy finding and watching helpful videos on lighting.
We've pulled together six of our favorite lighting videos to share with you - a few that answer common questions, a few that look into the future of lighting, and one that is just enlightening.
As more and more buildings are beginning to install smart lighting into their spaces, many retailers are using indoor positioning to gather information on merchandising, operations, and experiences in their stores. Smart LED lighting allows for businesses to add convenience and efficiency while driving engagement and providing valuable data on patron behavior –– all through lighting. In this video, Acuity explains how indoor lighting is used for smart retail applications.

Lighting is one crucial element that should not be overlooked when it comes to store design and construction. Glenn Trunley of TUMI talks about the importance of using quality lighting and having the right partners in accomplishing store design goals. Regency Lighting partnered with Glenn to bring consistency, exceptional design, and the right budgetary solutions to set him up to succeed.
Smart lighting technology is also being used in commercial office settings, not just retail environments. In this video, Philips has contributed to one of the most innovative office buildings in the world, the Edge in Amsterdam. Each fixture throughout the building has sensors and controls that provides location-based information on temperature, occupancy, and energy usage.
Yes, this is a video series for children, but we still really enjoy this video. It's a bit long, so you'll have to look at it like you're watching a TV episode, however, it helps answer a question many of us ask. What happens to all of the light bulbs we use? If you have fluorescent lighting you're looking to recycle, we can help. Check out this article on how to recycle fluorescent light bulbs and electronic waste.
This is one question we receive regularly from customers –– and it's an important one. The risks of using the wrong sockets with your fluorescents or linear LEDs include:
- Voiding the UL listing on your lamp
- Causing an electrical short, resulting in a serious fire hazard
- Shortening the life of your light bulbs
We've put together this helpful video to help you understand the difference between shunted and non-shunted sockets. We actually have a whole playlist with three different videos that dive in to this topic a bit more. Watch the rest of the videos here.
Maybe this video doesn't help answer specific lighting questions of yours, but we have to list it as number one because, it's just fascinating! Well done, Schoolhouse Electric.
