This article was written in 2016 by our co-founder, Ron Regenstreif.

We are weeks away from heading to Haiti for our first Regency Home building trip, and I am so excited. What a privilege to be a part of doing something life-changing for disadvantaged children. Our work is about more than just selling light bulbs – we want to help and serve people across the globe.

In fact, I am writing this from Thailand near the ZOE boys' home we helped build two years ago. It is so meaningful to see how thrilled and grateful the boys are for this place, and I am already looking forward to seeing the impact that our new project will have. We're targeting year's end for completing the Regency Home in Haiti, which will provide a home for as many as 100 children.

Last year, while in Haiti on a mission trip, I saw impoverished, hungry children scattered throughout the streets, and I knew our company had to do something. I've witnessed the power of charity work many times – not only in the lives of others, but in mine, too. It gives me purpose, and I am honored to help lead a company that works for a greater good.

Our team has worked together to provide wheelchairs for disabled people across the world through our partnership with Joni and Friends, feed the hungry with Children's Hunger Fund, build children's homes with Zoe International in Thailand, and serve at-risk children with Turnaround Ministries in Atlanta. I've seen God's hand work in wonderful ways through our partnership with these wonderful organizations.

During our annual sales conference in 2016, we announced our plans for the home for children to the vendors who were in town for our concurring trade show. And within minutes of my announcement, Sam Sinai, CEO of Deco Lighting, pledged $25,000 to the project! I want to thank our friend for his generous gift towards the Haiti project. What a wonderful response from one of Regency’s key business partners. How cool is it to do business together, and impact the world for others!

Sam sent us an email last week, explaining his decision to donate:

“The greatest pleasure in doing business, in succeeding in business, is the opportunity to share that success with others. What Regency Lighting is doing in Haiti is an absolute Godsend for children who would otherwise starve in the streets.

The fact that Deco Lighting can actually play a part in saving hundreds of lives means more to me than anything I can do as an innovative lighting manufacturer. This is the real thing. This is what life is about. We feel blessed to be working with such a forward-thinking, social-conscious company as Regency Lighting."

We talk a lot about our R.I.S.E. values at Regency – Relationship, Integrity, Service, and Expertise. It's pretty easy to talk about R.I.S.E., but much more difficult to truly live it out. We believe it's possible to conduct business without compromising these values, so we are committed to making a difference in our world for those in need, each other, the customers we serve, and the vendors we partner with.

So why are we highlighting this initiative on our blog? It's not to boast about the undertaking, but to give our readers insight into what drives us as a team and to give you an opportunity to partner with us on this initiative. Together, we can truly accomplish great things and leave a legacy of generosity and care.
